Disbelief instead of Faith

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3) 

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

 إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱشْتَرَوُا۟ ٱلْكُفْرَ بِٱلْإِيمَٰنِ لَن يَضُرُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ شَيْـًٔا وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ 177

 وَلَا يَحْسَبَنَّٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓا۟ أَنَّمَا نُمْلِى لَهُمْ خَيْرٌ لِّأَنفُسِهِمْ إِنَّمَا نُمْلِى لَهُمْ لِيَزْدَادُوٓا۟ إِثْمًا وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ مُّهِينٌ 178

177.  Those who purchase disbelief at the price of faith harm Allah not at all, and theirs will be a painful doom.       178.  And let not those who disbelieve imagine that the rein We give them bodeth good unto their souls. We only give them rein that they may grow in sinfulness. And theirs will be a shameful doom.

177.  ‘Innal-laziinash-tarawul-kufra  bil-‘iimaani  lany-yazur-rullaaha  shay-‘aa.  Wa  lahum  ‘azaabun  ‘aliim.  178.  Wa  laa  yah-sabannal-laziina  kafaruuu  ‘annamaa  numlii  lahum   khayrul-li-‘an-fusihim.  ‘Innamaa  numlii  lahum  li-yaz-daaduuu’ismaa.  Wa  lahum  ‘azaabum-muhiin.

Commentary

      

‘Ash-taraw – (they purchased), it also means ‘to sell as well as to purchase’ but here it aims to purchase. That is to say, they left Belief and Faith, and chose infidelity and disbelief.

                     

Muhiin – (shameful, wretched), this word has been derived from the word ‘ahaanat, which means insult, disgrace, suffering shame or dishonor. Our Lord Almighty! Save the entire Believers and Muslims from this kind of torment.

Before these verses, Satan and the devils were being discussed that they plan to frighten the Believers by their different vicious and terrifying managements, but it is compulsory for the Believers that they should not have any fear in their hearts except Allah Almighty. The devils run easily to infidelity, disbelief and insurrection leaving Faith and Islam. Their attempts of this type do never injure Allah Almighty.

Noor-e-Khuda hae kufr ki harkat pe khanda zan

Phoonkuun se yeh charaagh, bujhaya na jae ga

(The Light of God is smiling on the act of infidelity

This lamp would never be extinguished with blows)

Now it is being commanded again that those people have purchased infidelity and disbelief at the price of faith. Doing so, they can never harm Allah Almighty, His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) or His religion. Contrary to this, they will suffer the painful doom. If Allah Almighty has given them some rein, then they should not be proud that this rein bodes well for their souls. The rein of punishment is not favorable for them. But Allah Almighty gives them rein only that they may grow in sinfulness. Moreover, they will be fallen into a shameful doom.

 إِنَّمَا ذَٰلِكُمُ ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ يُخَوِّفُأَوْلِيَآءَهُۥ فَلَا تَخَافُوهُمْ وَخَافُونِ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ 175

  وَلَا يَحْزُنكَ ٱلَّذِينَ يُسَٰرِعُونَ فِى ٱلْكُفْرِ إِنَّهُمْ لَن يَضُرُّوا۟ ٱللَّهَ شَيْـًٔا يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ أَلَّا يَجْعَلَلَهُمْ حَظًّا فِى ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ عَظِيمٌ 176

175.  It is only the devil who would make (men) fear his partisans. So fear  them not; and fear Me, if ye are true believers.      176.  Let not their conduct grieve thee, who run easily to disbelief, for lo! they injure Allah not at all. It is Allah’s Will to assign them no portion in the Hereafter, and theirs will be an awful doom.

175.  ’Innamaa  zaalikumush-Shay-taanu  yukhaw-wifu  ‘awli-yaaa-‘ah.  Falaa  takhaa-fuuhum  wa  khaafuuNi  ‘in-  kuntum-Mu’-miniin.  176.  Wa  laa  yah-zunkallaziina  yusaari-‘uuna  fil-kufr.  ‘Inna-hum  lany—yazurrUllaaha  shay-‘aa.  YuriidUllaahu  ‘allaa  yaj-‘ala  lahum  hazzan-  fil-‘Aakhirah.  Wa  lahum  ‘azaabun  ‘aziim.

Commentary

      

Yukhaw-wifu  - (he frightens, terrifies), that is to say; the fear and concern about the future. Devilish temptations perplex and make the human being anxious always about his future. The words takhaa-fuuhum and  khaafuuNi  in this lesson have been derived from the word ‘Khawf’ which means fear and fright.

‘Awli-yaaa-‘ahuu – (his partisans, his friends, his helpers and his supporters). Singular of this word is walii. Because of suitableness of this word’s meanings, the pious and good persons are called ‘awli-yaaa-‘Allaah.

Yusaari-‘uuna – (they run easily), it means, “they make haste, hasten.

Allah Almighty commands that the person who wants to inspire the awe about your enemy through spreading the false news, is disciple of the Devil and mislead by Satan. His aim is to frighten you by inspiring with their awe. Therefore, do not fear them if you have faith (you are truly Believers). Allah Almighty affirmed, “You have proved practically that you do not fear the Devil. So, do never fear these devils, but fear Me only. Hypocrites run unto disbelief because of his false news, for lo!  They injure Allah not at all; let not their conduct grieve you. Neither they can damage anything which belongs to the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), nor they can harm the Religion of Allah Almighty, but they have been harming themselves only. It is Allah’s Will to assign them no portion in the Hereafter as retaliation of their hypocrisy, and an awful doom has been waiting for them on the Doomsday.

 فَٱنقَلَبُوا۟ بِنِعْمَةٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَفَضْلٍ لَّمْ يَمْسَسْهُمْ سُوٓءٌ وَٱتَّبَعُوا۟ رِضْوَٰنَ ٱللَّهِ وَٱللَّهُ ذُو فَضْلٍ عَظِيمٍ 174

174.  So they returned with grace and favour from Allah, and no harm touched them. And they followed the good Pleasure of Allah, and Allah is of Infinite Bounty.

174.  Fan-qalabuu  bi-ni’-matim-minAllaahi  wa  fazlil-lam-  yam-sas-hum  suuu-‘unw-wat-taba-‘uu  RizwaanAllaah.  Wallaahu  Zuu-fazlin  ‘Aziim.

Commentary

      

Messenger of Allah Almighty reached the place named ‘Hamraa’ul ‘Asad’ with the Army of Muslim crusaders to follow Abu Sufiyan. Distance of this place is eight miles fromMadinah. When Abu Sufiyan heard that the Muslims have been following him, his heart was terrified severely. He postponed the idea of attack and ran away towards Makkah. Occasionally a body of traders of Abdul Qais was proceeding to Madinah. Abu Sufiyan excited them by enticing something to remove his humiliation; that they should announce such news after reaching Madinah, as hearing that news the Muslims would be overawed and frightened. The people of that caravan began to say after reaching Madinah that, ‘The people of Makkah have prepared a very huge Army to ruin the Muslims’. Hearing this news, excitement of faith increased in the hearts of Muslims more than earlier instead of fearing, and they began to say after listening to the state of Infidels’ Army, “Allah is sufficient for us opposite to the entire world! Most Excellent is He in Whom we trust”. These feelings of the Muslims and their rewards have been described in this verse.

Another narrative exists also in connection with the reason of revelation of these verses. That is, “At the end of the Battle of ‘Uhud, Abu Sufiyan announced that the battle will be fought again next year at the place of Badr. You should be ready”. The Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) accepted this challenge. When the next year came, he (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) commanded the people to come out for Jihad (religious crusade).

On the other side, Abu Sufiyan left Makkah with his Army. He traveled some distance but lost his courage and as he heard the preparation of the Muslims, their awe prevailed over him. Therefore, he wanted to go back to Makkah and evade regarding famine but he thought that it should be dealt with a plan that the Muslims should be blamed. By chance, a person was proceeding towards Madinah. Abu Sufiyan tempted him for anything and said, “Announce such news after reaching Madinah, because of which the Muslims be frightened and they do not come out for war”. This person reached Madinahand began to announce the news that the people of Makkah have collected very large number of Army and it would not be better for the Muslims to fight against them. But Allah Almighty strengthened the intentions of Muslims. They said, “Allah is sufficient for us”. Eventually, the Muslims reached the battlefield of Badr according to the promise but the Infidels did not arrive for fighting. A very heavy market used to establish there. Therefore, the Muslims remained there for three days, earned very well profit in trade and returned to Madinah.

 ٱلَّذِينَ ٱسْتَجَابُوا۟ لِلَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَآ أَصَابَهُمُ ٱلْقَرْحُ لِلَّذِينَأَحْسَنُوا۟ مِنْهُمْ وَٱتَّقَوْا۟ أَجْرٌ عَظِيمٌ 172

  ٱلَّذِينَ قَالَ لَهُمُ ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّ ٱلنَّاسَ قَدْ جَمَعُوا۟ لَكُمْ فَٱخْشَوْهُمْ فَزَادَهُمْ إِيمَٰنًا وَقَالُوا۟ حَسْبُنَا ٱللَّهُ وَنِعْمَٱلْوَكِيلُ 173

172.  As for those who heard the call of Allah and His Messenger after the harm befell them (in the fight); for such of them as do right and ward off (evil), there is great reward.     173.  Those unto whom men said: Lo! the people have gathered against you, therefore fear them; (the threat of danger) but increased the faith of them and they said: Allah is sufficient for us! Most Excellent is He in Whom we trust!

172.  ‘Allaziinas-tajaabuu  Lillaahi  war-Rasuuli  mim-  ba’-di  maaa  ‘asaaba-humul-qarhu  lil-laziina  ‘ah-sanuu  minhum  watta-qaw  ‘ajrun  ‘aziim.   173.  ‘Allaziina  qaala  lahumun-naasu  ‘innan-naasa  qad  ja-ma-‘uu  lakum  fakh-shawhum  fazaadahum  ‘iimaanaa  wa  qaaluu  hasbunAllaahu  wa  Ni’-mal-Wakiil.

Commentary

      

An incident has been described as the aim of sending these verses:

During the Battle of ‘Uhud, the Muslims slumbered and then they stopped against the enemy being refreshed. A very furious fight took place in the battlefield. After suffering a defeat, the Idolaters of Makkah ran away. Abu Sufiyan was chieftain of that Army. He stopped in the way while they were returning to Makkah and thought in his heart, “We have made a big mistake that we have left the Muslims who were defeated and injured. It was better that they would have been finished today”. They began to consult one another and finalized, “Let’s go back to Madinah and finish the Muslims”.

When the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) heard this news that Abu Sufiyan was thinking to attack on the Muslims again, he (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) publicized in Madinah, “Get those people ready to follow the enemy today, who were our colleagues yesterday in the battlefield of ‘Uhud”.

   

The Muslim crusaders had been injured severely in the battlefield. They had been wounded deadly. Apparently, they did not have strength to fight now. But listening to the call of God’s Apostle (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allah Almighty be upon him), they got ready immedieately. Allah Almighty has mentioned about those good servants in this verse.

Having too much wounds on their bodies, the Crusaders of Islam did not confuse in their minds, prepared themselves without any delay upon one call of the Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). For such good-natured and abstinent of them, there is great reward.

 وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَمْوَٰتًۢا بَلْ أَحْيَآءٌ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ 169

 فَرِحِينَ بِمَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمُ ٱللَّهُ مِن فَضْلِهِۦ وَيَسْتَبْشِرُونَ بِٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يَلْحَقُوا۟ بِهِم مِّنْ خَلْفِهِمْ أَلَّا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ 170

يَسْتَبْشِرُونَ بِنِعْمَةٍ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ وَفَضْلٍ وَأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يُضِيعُ أَجْرَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ 171

169.  Think not of those, who are slain in the Way of Allah, as dead. Nay, they are living, with their Lord they have provision-   170.  Jubilant (are they) because of that which Allah hath bestowed upon them of His Bounty, rejoicing for the sake of those who have not joined them but are left behind: That there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve.    171.  They rejoice because of favour from Allah and kindness, and that Allah wasteth not the reward of the believers.

169.  Wa  laa  tah-sabannal-laziina  qutiluu  fii  Sabiilillaahi  ‘am-waataa.  Bal  ‘ahyaaa-‘un  ‘inda  Rabbihim  yurzaquun. 170.  Farihiina  bimaaa  ‘aataa-  humullaahu  min-  fazlihii,  wa  yastab-shiruuna  billaziina  lam  yalhaquu  bihim-min  khalfi-him,  ‘allaa  khawfun  ‘alayhim  wa  laa  hum  yahzanuun.  171.  Yastab-shiruuna  bi-ni’-matim-minallaahi  wa  fazlinw-wa  ‘annallaaha  laa  yuzii-‘u  ‘ajral-Mu’-miniin.

Commentary

      

It is a universal truth that human being cannot be released from the death although sitting at home. However, he remains excluded from that kind of death, which should be called perpetual life instead of death. Those people who are slain in the Way of Allah Almighty, they are Martyrs. They get a specific fortunate life after martyrdom, which is not given any other. The Martyrs will remain cheerful in the Paradise because Allah Almighty bestowed upon them the wealth of martyrdom with His Bounty and Mercy. He will send upon them His great favors and the rain of His benefactions. Which promises Allah Almighty had made by means of His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) for the martyrs, when they will behold them, they will be pleased very much. Then they will know that Allah Almighty does not destroy the diligence, endeavor, effort, try and strife of the Believers. Moreover, He gives retaliation more than any person’s imagination and thinking.

Not only, the martyrs will be happy upon their condition but they will also rejoice for the sake of their Muslim brethren, who have not yet joined them. But, who are left behind in Jihad: That; if they are either martyred in the Way of Allah Almighty too or died upon Islam and Belief, then they will also get a graceful and relaxed life. There shall no fear come upon them in future nor shall they grieve on the past. In addition, they will enter directly into the Mercy of Allah Almighty with full satisfaction.

 وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا۟ وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ قَٰتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَوِ ٱدْفَعُوا۟ قَالُوا۟ لَوْ نَعْلَمُ قِتَالًا لَّٱتَّبَعْنَٰكُمْ هُمْ لِلْكُفْرِيَوْمَئِذٍ أَقْرَبُ مِنْهُمْ لِلْإِيمَٰنِ يَقُولُونَ بِأَفْوَٰهِهِم مَّا لَيْسَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَكْتُمُونَ 167

ٱلَّذِينَ قَالُوا۟ لِإِخْوَٰنِهِمْ وَقَعَدُوا۟ لَوْ أَطَاعُونَا مَاقُتِلُوا۟ قُلْ فَٱدْرَءُوا۟ عَنْ أَنفُسِكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ إِن كُنتُمْ صَٰدِقِينَ 168

167b.  They answered: If we knew aught of fighting we would follow you. On that day they were nearer disbelief than faith. They utter with their mouths a thing, which is not in their hearts. And Allah is Best Aware of what they hide.   168.  Those who, while they sat at home, said of their brethren (who were fighting for the Cause of Allah): If they had obeyed us they would not have been slain. Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Then avert death from yourselves if ye are truthful.

167b.  Qaaluu  law  na’-lamu  qitaalal-lattaba’-naakum.  Hum  lil-kufri  yawma-‘izin  ‘aqrabu  minhum  lil-‘iimaan.  Yaquu-luuna  bi-‘afwaahi-him-maa  laysa  fii  quluubihim.  Wallaahu  ‘A’-lamu  bimaa  yaktumuun. 168.  ‘Allaziina  qaaluu  li-‘ikh-waanihim  wa  qa-‘aduu  law  ‘ataa- ‘uunaa  maa  qutiluu.  Qul  fadra-‘uu  ‘an  ‘anfusikumul-mawta  ‘in- kuntum  saadiqiin.

Commentary

      

Greatest help and power, which is considered most useful in the battlefield, is that either the fighters would have complete support from their rear or they have expectation that their companions and protectors exist on their back, and they will be reaching very soon. Contrary to it, those soldiers remain in an excessive distressed condition and withered whose own companions leave them helpless and they have no hope regarding any help.

Abdullah bin ‘Ubayy adopted such behavior with the Muslim Crusaders. That is to say; at that time; when the enemy was in front of them and the Infidelity and Islam were near to knocking against each other, he brought back his companions. When he was advised in this connection, he replied that there is no chance of war. If we would have known that really; the both armies are going to fight, then we would have gone with you. Even now, if we felt that the war has begun, we would come to help you. He aimed also from this conversation that if really there were any encounter, we certainly would have remained with you. There is no comparison among your army and the army of Infidels and Idolaters. You have only one thousand personnel and they have three thousand braves. In addition, even you have no war equipment. It is not a battle, but to put oneself into destruction unnecessarily. In other words, it means from this description, “If we would know how to fight or aware of the art of war, then we would have remained with you”. As though, they taunted the Muslims in their hearts, “You did not act upon our advice, accepted opinion of others, as if; we were considered as ignorant from the established orders of war”. They tried to harm the Muslims from this act and strengthened the Infidels. They began to say the ‘Ansaar (a tribe of sheikhs supposed to have belonged originally to Madinah and embraced Islam), “If they had followed us and remained at their homes; they would not have been slain”. Allah Almighty commanded them that if it was not possible to escape from death at home, then why not it should be accepted, by coming out in the battlefield like the brave people.

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3) 

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

 وَمَآ أَصَٰبَكُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلْتَقَى ٱلْجَمْعَانِفَبِإِذْنِ ٱللَّهِ وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ 166

  وَلِيَعْلَمَ ٱلَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا۟ وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ تَعَالَوْا۟ قَٰتِلُوا۟ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ أَوِ ٱدْفَعُوا۟ قَالُوا۟ لَوْ نَعْلَمُ قِتَالًا لَّٱتَّبَعْنَٰكُمْ هُمْ لِلْكُفْرِيَوْمَئِذٍ أَقْرَبُ مِنْهُمْ لِلْإِيمَٰنِ يَقُولُونَ بِأَفْوَٰهِهِم مَّا لَيْسَ فِى قُلُوبِهِمْ وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَكْتُمُونَ 167

166.  And that which befell you, on the day when the two armies met, was by permission of Allah; that He might know the true believers- 167a.  And that He might know the hypocrites, unto whom it was said: Come, fight in the Way of Allah, or defend yourselves.

166.  Wa  maaa ‘asaabakum  yawmal-taqal-jam-‘aani  fabi-‘izNillaahi  wa  li-ya’-lamal-Mu’-miniin. 167a.  Wa  liya’-lamal-laziina  naafaquu.  Wa  qiila  lahum  ta-‘aalaw  qaatiluu  fii  SabiiLillaahi  ‘a-wid-fa-‘uu.

Commentary

      

Yawmal-taqal-jam-‘aani – (on the day when the two armies met), it signifies towards the day of the Battle of ‘Uhud, when the Armies of Islam and Infidelity stood opposite and met each other face to face.

Allah Almighty is the Omnipotent. He has full rule and jurisdiction over the entire universe. Victory and defeat is only in His hand. When Muslim crusaders and Idolaters of Makkah met face to face on the day of the Battle of ‘Uhud and the Muslims faced accidental defeat, they were conquered on account of such situation arose because of their own act which was against the Will of Allah Almighty to bestow them complete superiority. What happened, that was with the order of Allah Almighty and the Muslims produced its cause themselves. Aim of it was that belief and purity of the Muslims might be known on one side and hypocrisy of the Hypocrites might be disclosed on the other side, and the good might be separated completely from the bad.

Before starting of the battle, when Abdullah bin ‘Ubayy, the leader of Hypocrites began to return with his three hundred companions, he was asked, “Where do you run at the spot? Come, if you are true in your claim that you are true Muslims, then let us fight in the Way of Allah Almighty. Otherwise, at least, you should take part in stopping and repelling the enemy. That is to say, live together in the assemblage; so that the enemies feel upon their heart fear on account of more strength of our Army. If you do not fight in the Way of Allah Almighty, for the cause of Islam, then at least you should help us to stop the enemy as the passion of your native land, service of your nation or safety of your wealth and children, because if the enemy gets victory then he will take revenge from all and will not leave anybody. Overall, notwithstanding it was tried to warn them and by means of excitement; the entire matters were illustrated. But the Hypocrites did not accept and vice of their hearts manifested.  

Abdullah bin ‘Ubayy returned to Madinah city with his companion hypocrites and the Muslims moved forth for the battle. The incident, which happened there, has already been discussed earlier. Reply of Abdullah bin ‘Ubayy against the entire advices will be described in the next lesson ‘Inshaa ‘Allaah.

Complaint of distress

 أَوَلَمَّآأَصَٰبَتْكُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَدْ أَصَبْتُم مِّثْلَيْهَا قُلْتُمْ أَنَّىٰ هَٰذَا قُلْ هُوَ مِنْ عِندِ أَنفُسِكُمْ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍ قَدِيرٌ 165

165.  How is it so, when a disaster smote you, though ye had smitten (them with a disaster) twice (as great), that ye said: How is this? Say (unto them, O’ Muhammad): It is from yourselves. Lo! Allah is Able to do all things.

165.  ‘Awa-  lammaaa  ‘asaabat-kum-musiibatun- qad  ‘asabtum-mislayhaa,  qultum  ‘annaa  haazaa.  Qul  huwa  min  ‘indi  ‘anfusikum.  ‘InnAllaaha  ‘alaa  kulli  shay-‘in- Qadiir.

Commentary

      

The incident of the Battle of ‘Uhud was being described since long; its necessary detail was explained. Then such error was stated, which was committed by the Muslims. Later on, they were forgiven. Allah Almighty forgave also those archers and they were recommended by Him too to be forgiven by the Messenger  (SallAllaahu ‘alayHi wa ‘AaliHii Wasallam). In this connection, manners and virtues of the Prophet of Allah, auspiciousness of his (SallAllaahu ‘alayHi wa ‘AaliHii Wasallam) existence and peculiarities were discussed. The Muslims were also told that coming of this Messenger into existence among them was greatest kindness of Allah Almighty upon them. They should know his (SallAllaahu ‘alayHi wa ‘AaliHii Wasallam) value and thankful to Allah Almighty for this favor. Now remaining story of the ‘Uhud is being described again.

It has been declared to the Muslims, “Do you wonder on the disaster and loss, which you suffered from the Battle of ‘Uhud  and ask that whence this disaster has come? You consider that you were Muslims; you came out to fight against the enemies of the truth in the Way of Allah. Allah Almighty had promised also for help, then why and from whither this calamity has come upon you? You would have thought before speaking that; how much you have been suffered? Your enemies have been suffered earlier double of it. Your seventy people were martyred in the Battle of ‘Uhud and became heirs of the Heaven. On the contrary, during the battle of Badr their seventy persons were slain and thrown into the Hell. In addition their seventy people became your prisoners, upon whom you had full control. If you wanted, you could kill them. Then besides the Battle of Badr, their more than twenty men were slain also in the beginning of the Battle of ‘Uhud. If you have lost here then imagine there, they have faced disastrous defeat in the Battleof Badr , and in the Battle of ‘Uhud too, when you fought courageously, they lost all their wits, and ran away being senseless.

If you reflect then you yourselves became the reason of this trouble.

1.   Because of excitement, you persisted to fight coming outward from the city of Madinah.

2.   The archers disobeyed the Holy Messenger  (SallAllaahu ‘alayHi wa ‘AaliHii Wasallam) and left the Pass unsafe. Why are you being surprised now? You became the reason yourselves of this disaster and defeat; otherwise, Allah Almighty is Able to do all things. If He wished, He would not let you put in this trial. No doubt, He has the perfect Power of Influence.
