Commentary
Qist – (Justice, equity), that middle way, in which, there is no fear of going astray, a Straight Path without crookedness.

Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) is being commanded that He should say to the people: My Lord enjoins to go straight forward on the path of justice and human nature.

Allah Almighty has guided the Muslims that when they worship, they should set their faces upright, toward Him at every place of worship and call upon Him, being loyal to Him only. They should never obey the false customs, traditions and nor be deceived by the sayings of any wrongdoer, because Allah Almighty will bring entire humankind into being again after death and everyone will come only in Allah’s grip.

Fore-fathers and those protecting friends, who mislead, will not be of use in the Hereafter. Only those people will be successful in the Court of Allah Almighty, who worship Him purifying their inner and outer (both) with the intention of only His pure obedience and don’t care for any other against His Command.

God Almighty has explained the Way of Guidance very clearly through His Scriptures revealed upon His Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon Them). Then some people desire to go Straight Way by perceiving It. Allah Almighty leads them toward the Right Path. Whereas, there are some such people, the straying has settled in whose hearts.

They have chosen the devils for protecting friends giving up the Path which leads unto Allah Almighty. The devils have put them on the path of error and infused them that: the correct path is the same which they have adopted. How can those people give up errors, who have taken up “the wrong” with their mind “the right”? These are the people, error has just hold and subdued over whom.

Actually it signifies that the people who accept their error and mistake immediately, whenever anyone cautions them about it, and ask Allah Almighty for forgiveness like Adam (peace be upon Him) (Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If Thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost) – they are saved from the straying.

Immodesty

Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

28.  And when they do some lewdness they say: We found our fathers doing it, and Allah hath enjoined it on us. Say: Allah, verily, enjoineth not lewdness. Tell ye concerning Allah that which ye know not?
28.  Wa  ‘izaa  fa-‘aluu  faahisha-tan-  qaaluu  wajadnaa  ‘alay-haaa  ‘aabaa-‘anaa  wAllaahu  ‘amaranaa  bihaa.  Qul  ‘in-nAllaaha  laa  ya’-muru  bil-fahshaaa’.  ‘Ataquu-luuna  ‘alAllaahi  maa  laa  ta’-lamuun.

Commentary

Faahisha-tan and fahshaaa’ both words have been derived from fahash. The meanings of all these three words are: evil deeds, lewdness, immodesty and sins.

We have come to know from the previous verses that hiding male and female parts from one another is natural habit of the human being. Accordingly, by seducing the Devil, when Adam and Eve (peace be upon Them) tasted the fruit of that tree, which was forbidden for Them and their robe of the Garden was torn off from their bodies and they became naked before each other, then they began to hide their bodies with the leaves of the trees by connecting them.

Thus Allah Almighty taught the mankind preparing raiment for veiling the body and made it source of their ornamentation. During the period, when this verse was revealed, it had become tradition that the people of Makkah and in their imitation, other all people too, men and women used to go round the Ka’bah with nude bodies.

When they were asked about its reason, they told two reasons:

1.    We found our fathers doing it, so we imitate their footprints.

2.    Allah (Almighty) has enjoined on us to perform as our ancestors used to do.

God Almighty commands in this verse that this kind of deed is lewdness and He has rejected such kinds of acts and the reasons explained by them.

It is commanded that when these people commit some lewdness they say: We have seen our forefathers doing the same, we only imitate them. This question has been solved in the story of Adam (peace be upon Him) that He was Father of all of you, but He came into temptation of Satan, so, imitation of ancestors cannot be suitable in every work, because it is possible that they would have done some works because of deception by Satan, from which, it is compulsory for the children to refrain.

Another matter about which they say: Allah has enjoined on us: Move round Ka’-bah with naked bodies. Allah Almighty commanded to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) in this regard to tell them: Allah Almighty does never enjoin lewdness and immodesty. Which evidence you have about it that Allah Almighty enjoined to go round Ka’-bah in nude condition? He has arranged for you the sources to prepare the raiment in the world. Then, why do you live nude and shameless? If you desire to imitate your forefathers, you should imitate your first Father Adam (peace be upon Him), that, when He was stripped all at once, He (peace be upon Him) began to cover His body with the leaves of the trees immediately. You should not use such type of words for Allah Almighty, which has He neither commanded you nor taught.

Entire indecent, obscene and evil talks and deeds were stopped forever as it is obvious from the Words of this verse.

27.  O Children of Adam! Let not Satan seduce you as he caused your (first) parents to go forth from the Garden and tore off from them their robe (of innocence) that he might manifest their shame to them. Lo! He seeth you, he and his tribe, from whence ye see them not. Lo! We have made the devils protecting friends for those who believe not.
27.  Yaa-baniii-  ‘Aadama  laa  yafti-nanna-kumush-Shaytaanu  kamaaa  ‘akhraja  ‘aba-waykum-minal-Jannati  yan-zi-‘u  ‘an-humaa  libaasa-humaa  liyuri-yahumaa  saw-‘aati-himaa.  ‘Innahuu  yaraa-kum  huwa  qabii-luhuu  min  haysu  laa  taraw-nahum.  ‘Innaa  ja-‘alNash-shayaa-tiina  ‘aw-liyaaa-‘a  lillaziina  laa  yu’-minuun.

Commentary

Laa  yafti-nanna – Let not him misguide), the word yafti-nanna is from fitnah. Its origin is fatuun, which means “to seduce, to deceive”. Fitnah means “calamity, painful. Difficult”.

Yan-zi-‘u (to cause to tear off the robe, to uncover, to snatch), this word has been derived from naza’. Naza’ means “to snatch something from someone”. If two people try to snatch the thing of each other, that misdeed will be called nazaa’. In addition, if many people begin to snatch their things from one another among themselves, it is called tanaaza’

Qabii-lun – (nation, tribe), it has been made from Qabal, which means “Anterior, previous, preliminary, and ahead”. Qabii-lun is the thing, which is “before, in front of anyone. Those people are also called Qabii-latun overall, who are closest to someone and remain in presence every time, so, it has been translated as “the nation”.

It is Second advice for the Children of Adam (peace be upon Him). The people have been cautioned clearly in it that they should beware of the tricks of Satan and it has been caused to understand in many forthcoming verses that: what does the Devil wish to take work from you and about which acts has Allah Almighty commanded to be obeyed? These both should not be inter-mixed.

It is commanded: O Children of Adam (peace be upon Him)! Behold! You should never be entrapped by Satan. The history of your first parents, Adam and His wife Eve (peace be upon Them) has been disclosed before you for the same purpose, so that you may be aware of the plans of Satan.

You will know easily from this story that: How Iblis seduced Adam and Eve (peace be upon Them) by flattering and how He talked with Them for deception and fraud? Finally they fell into his scheming of misleading. And because of this woe, they had to leave the Garden, their raiment was snatched from them, even that their shame was manifest in front of each other.

Eventually, they asked humbly from Allah Almighty for forgiveness and their error was forgiven, but they were sent down on the earth for living, where their children would have to deal with Satan during their entire life. He is very dangerous enemy of the mankind, who often lies secretly in ambush, whence He observes you but you cannot see Him frequently. Therefore, you should seek the Shelter of Allah Almighty, because He (Satan) is in His (God’s) Sight every time. And Allah Almighty can save His own Believers from Satan’s both kinds of attacks (whether those are hidden or open). However, whosoever does neither believe in Allah Almighty and nor obeys His command, there is no shelter for such person for safety from the attack of Iblis.

Raiment of restraint from evil - Quran Chapter 7 – 26 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-938) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 7 – 26 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-938) - درس قرآن

Raiment of restraint from evil

Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

26.  O Children of Adam! We have revealed unto you raiment to conceal your shame, and splendid vesture. And the raiment of restraint from evil, that is best. This is of the Revelations of Allah, that they may remember.
26.  Yaa-baniii-  ‘Aadama  qad  ‘anzalNaa  ‘alay-kum  libaa-sany-yu-waarii  saw-‘aati-kum  wa  riishaa.  Wa  libaasut-taqwaa-  zaalika  khayr.  Zaalika  min  ‘Aayaa-TIllaahi  la-‘al-lahum  yaz-zakkar-ruun.

Commentary

‘AnzalNaa – (We revealed), it is past tense, origin of which is ‘inzaal. ‘Inzaal means “to reveal”. It has been derived from the word nazuul. Nazuul means “to come down”. The word nazlah is from it too. Nazlah is that water, which falls from eyes and nose together. Nazuul is used also for the thing, which comes down gradually by changing its forms and finally it appears in a complete shape. According to this discussion; ‘anzaal will be meant: Making a thing usable after changing it in different forms. Aim to use it here is the same, because first form of the raiment is cotton etc. then threads are prepared from the cotton, after that, cloth is woven from the thread. Finally the cloth is cut and sewn according to required size and made clothe (raiment). Allah Almighty makes this all process easy for the sake of human being with His Mercy.

Riishun – (splendid vesture, ornaments, goods for adornment), actually this word (riishun) is used for the feathers/wings of the birds. The birds have been decorated with their wings because these things are for their adornment, save them from cold and hot weather etc. too. The clothes of the human beings perform the same duty for them. Those keep them hot, so, are like the riishun for the mankind.

Taqwaa – (restraint from evil), this word has come at many places in the Holy Qur’an. Here it aims – modesty and shame, which saves from frivolous and absurd matters. This is the actual raiment of the mankind. Teaching every kind of ups and downs properly to Adam and His wife Eve (peace be upon Them), they were sent down in the world from the Garden. Now, their children have been advised. The first advice is in this verse.

It is commanded: O Children of Adam (peace be upon Him)! We have grown in the world such things from the earth, by which you can prepare raiment for yourselves by using those forces, which Allah Almighty has given to you. And you can cover those parts of your body, opening of which is a shame. Moreover, the raiment is a splendid vesture for human being and source of keeping your body hot in the cold weather too. And it will be useful for you as the feathers and wings of the birds are useful for them too. But in fact this raiment is helpful of your shame. The real thing, by which your body and soul can be saved, is restraint from evil, main part of which is shame and modesty.

These modesty, shame and fear of God Almighty are the matters, which will save you from shamelessness, evil deeds and indecent talks. Apparent dress is helper to fear God Almighty. If fear of Allah Almighty does not exist, only raiment is not sufficient for prevention from the sins and wicked deeds. The raiment is one of the apparent tokens of Allah Almighty, thinking about which, you can perceive that Allah Almighty desires to keep you chaste, pure and clean. If you did not understand such matter from the dress; that it is the base camp of the heart’s chastity, then you have not taken that work from consideration and solicitude, which was your duty being a sensible and mature person. While “Restraint from the Evil” is a Foundation, then the raiment should also be according to Divine precepts of the Religion.

What should we learn from the story of Adam - Quran Chapter 7 – 23 to 25 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-937) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 7 – 23 to 25 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-937) - درس قرآن

What should we learn from the story of Adam

Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

The history regarding creation of Adam (peace be upon Him) has been described at many places in Holy Qur’an and a particular aspect has been emphasized everywhere in the terms of occasion. The human being should understand some real matters from this story. Following is an effort to draw attention briefly toward those matters, which are compulsory to be known.

1.    Mankind is viceroy of Allah Almighty in this world. Therefore, entire things of the earth are his obedient. Every individual should have this perception that any such sin is not committed by him, because of which, he would have to be ashamed before his Lord i.e. Allah Almighty.

2.    An enemy has been following him since birth, whose name is Satan, and he has undertaken responsibility to abash him by any means in front of Allah Almighty.

3.    The mankind has so much sense that he can recognize his profit and loss, and in addition, he has so much power and ability that he can do whatsoever he wishes. So, it was necessary to set him free for some time at any such place, where good and bad; both should exist, so that he may be provided the opportunity to use his authority and wisdom. Recognizing the goodness with his sense and adopting it will be foundation of his rewards, whereas, if he will choose evil and badness, will be punished properly. The world is a place for examining these both powers of the mankind. The reward for adopting the goodness is the Heaven but punishment against choosing the evil is the Hell. Likeness of Holy Qur’an and Sayings of the Last Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) exists in original form for the help of sense to recognize the goodness and the badness. Pattern of living in the Gardens was shown to Adam along with His wife (peace be upon Them) by keeping Them in the Garden for some days in the beginning.

4.    Sense and Option are natural forces, held in the spirit of human being, which remained with Adam (peace be upon Him) in the Garden too, but it was not possible to be the evil in open form There (in the Garden), and these both powers could get chance to perform, when the badness too would be before Them. Therefore, the hidden badness was kept before Them in the form of a tree of the Garden. And they were told: Don’t go nigh this tree if you wish to live in the Garden. The mankind became ready to obey this Command, but the sense began to determine: Why this command has been conveyed; to stay away from it? The Option (inner power) began to peevish: Why my freedom has been snatched? So, it became necessary that the human being should be given full liberty in such mutual atmosphere, where; goodness and badness are spread widely duly mixed, so that; the opportunity of choice may be provided to his sense and option without any resistance. And when the mankind return to the Gardens after bringing both powers in use by adopting the goodness with their experience and giving up wickedness, then they should live in the Gardens forever. Therefore, coming in the world became necessary. And which the Devil said to Adam and Eve (peace be upon Them) that: You cannot live always in the Garden without tasting the fruit of this tree; apparently; it is imposture, but actually it was to be so. Though, He knew it or otherwise. However, there was some loss of the human being in it that some people will use their sense and authority incorrectly and they will be deprived of the Gardens. Satan will carry them into the Hell along with Himself by the Order of Allah Almighty. But because of him, which ranks of the Believers will move up, that is such blessing, against which, sacrifice of good people for nothing is worthless.

5.    It is understood from this story that goodness and wickedness will remain along with each other in the world. Therefore, both kinds of people have independence in the world to live as they desire. None has any right to try to destroy any other person. The name of this attempt is tumult, so it has been commanded that they should be saved from it. We should understand properly from it that nobody can make decision for any other that; who is right and who is wrong? It will be judged by Allah Almighty Himself on the Day of Resurrection. The only need in the world is that the evil of anyone should not become calamity for others by spreading. It is rebellion and the duty of the Government is to stop it.

25.  Qaala  fiihaa  tah-yawna  wa  fiihaa  tamuu-tuuna  wa  minhaa  tukh-rajuun.

Commentary

Naturally a power to recognize Allah Almighty exists in the human beings. They are His obedient and servants. They have sense to understand His Commands. Since that, they have been designed on the Good, so they are not ready to accept any other as worse in the affairs, cheat and impostor, until they are not deceived.

There is a fault of forgetting into the mankind too. To err or be mistaken by them is not a big thing. Then it is in their nature also that whenever they err, they repent and feel abashed. And if anyone assures someone of them that he has fallen short in my (his) right, he becomes ready to apologize from him.

Keep these entire matters under consideration: You will find that whatsoever was committed by Adam and His wife Eve (peace be upon Them), that all is a part of the manifestation of their wisdom. Allah Almighty commanded: Don’t go nigh this tree. They were well aware of it that Allah Almighty was their Lord. They obeyed His Command. They were told: Satan is your open enemy. They understood it, but because of being good they could not think that the Devil was a collusive. He swore, but they could not recognize it other than the truth. Even they did not know the name of “a lie”. They took his saying as a truth and considered the meaning of Allah’s Command according to his (Satan’s) conversation.

When they ate the fruit of that forbidden tree and became naked, then they perceived about their error and began to be ashamed. After that, Allah Almighty caused to remember them that Command, which they had forgotten; that is to say; Iblis was their enemy. Upon this, they realized that (Let us flee to God) it was just like disobedience of Allah Almighty. They began to express their repentance for their fault immediately and said as it has been commanded in this verse that they both fell prostrate before their Lord and prayed: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. Thou art our God. If Thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost.

Then they were commanded: You would have understood now that; what the enemy is? Get all of you down on the earth from here and test your powers against one another. You would have to live there for a fixed period now, because the Garden cannot be an amphitheater of throwing down one another, enmity and mutual contention, whereas; good qualities of yours cannot spring up without competition. The earth is suitable place for you. Now all matters regarding your life, death and preparation for coming back here by reproducing, will happen on the earth. You will come back here, if you succeeded in the competition.
